WHEELCHAIR ACCESS – My news for you is not too good – Our venue is a VERY old coaching inn and has various levels and narrow corridors. For concert nights – There is flat access from the car park and through the restaurant and into the door to the hotel rooms …. here there is a short flight of about 6 steps to a door directly into the concert hall – so it all depends on the help available and the weight of the wheelchair ?? In my nephews case (a 25 yr old male) he had two carers who could lift him and he used his light weight pusher chair instead of his electric chair. For Showcase nights – Parking is available in the next door pub (The Chequers) which is next to the fire exit door directly into our showcase room – you will need to contact us to open the door from the inside – the easiest way is to bang on the door. There is no accessible toilet !!!! Of course we can provide free entry for your carer. I am sorry that we cant offer better
GENRES OF MUSIC – Mike and Tony were very sure that they want the musical mix at the club to be eclectic and entertaining. Chris, Mark and the new team could not agree more and are all strongly supportive of this aim. Hence folk both trad and contemporary are featured in the diary and welcomed at the open mic as are: blues, blue grass, singer songwriters, instrumentalists and even a foot stomping folk dance. In fact if it is acoustic and good your welcome and an electric bass or an evenly tempered electric guitar wont get turned away. Specially if your name is Martyn Hewitt (that used to read Mark Knopfler – till I met Martyn).
HUSH – We expect silence during concerts in the ‘Ball Room’ on the “Last Friday of every month” and believe it good etiquette to wait for gaps between songs to pop out to get drinks etc. we set the place up so that this is easy to come and go at any time.On ‘Showcase’ nights in the ‘Oak Room’ on the “Second Friday of every month” things are a little more casual but respect for the performer and enjoyment of the music is our priority. Again the room is set up so that you can circulate and wet your whistle at any time.
HOME GROWN TALENT – We have been SO impressed by the quality of the performers at our ‘Open Mic’ nights that we now call them “Showcase” nights. We enjoy regulars and new faces every month who take the coveted spots to try new songs, instruments and collaborations. We aim to offer ‘showcase’ performers paid 50 minute support slots in our main concerts along side headliners.
IN CONCERT ENTRY PRICE – Prices vary dependent on the performers booked
SHOWCASE NIGHT ENTRY PRICE – Entry is just £4 (£3.00 for perfomers) on the door (to pay for the room)
